It is important to set certain regulations and protocols in place to mitigate this and ensure less stress and complications as a result. Here are a few simple yet forgotten tips and tricks you could consider.



If your company has not bothered to put together an efficient storage system, then you should probably take the initiative to. Especially if lack of such a system is making life harder for you. Logistics is all about efficiency and timely deliveries, so if you are going to be wasting time looking for goods, you are going to hold up the entire supply chain process. The thing about logistics is that it has a domino effect. One thing goes wrong, there is a likelihood it would affect the next few processes. An effective storage system is key here, so come up with something simple and useful to follow a procedure.



Again related to storage, you need to get appropriate labels for everything. It is such a small detail that yes, it might be forgotten about; but try not to, because it really lessens the confusion. Make sure you opt for the right labels based on the products you are labelling. Some labels are less suited for certain goods than others, so you do actually have to spend more time than you would initially think on sorting these out. You can opt for craft label sheets, for example, find out how many you are going to need for a pre-determined period of time, and save yourself the hassle of making last minute orders.


Trained Staff

Older employees should be given a refresher course through training every now and then, and new staff should be put through a complete orientation and training without fail. Training is so important in such a practical environment since new staff, in particular, would find it initially overwhelming. They may not always know where a particular product is, and spending time looking for it is not very effective. They may also not be able to ask always since things can get quite chaotic in a warehouse when they want to. Well-trained staff will help eliminate many issues, so an investment here is necessary.



This is a job for the warehouse manager, although not anybody can do it either. Evaluation is a very important part of it all. This is where you check up on the warehouse processes and how effective they are for you during that period of time. Maybe you need to update your technology and software or maybe you need to get rid of certain methods that no longer seem to be working. These are just some of the basic areas, but there is, of course, a lot more involved.
